2025 NTUST x UCI EMI Overseas Professional Development Training Program

To enhance the diverse teaching skills of our EMI faculty, observe and refine EMI theoretical frameworks and practical teaching methods, and strengthen faculty's international competencies, the Office of Bilingual Education Initiatives plans to sponsor a few Taiwan Tech faculty members to attend a training program at the University of California, Irvine (UCI), from Sunday, February 2 to Wednesday, February 12.

This training program, carefully designed by UCI, includes teaching observations across various disciplines and a range of engaging thematic workshops. This comprehensive learning arrangement will provide participating faculty with highly inspiring insights and effectively enhance their professional teaching skills.

Key information is as follows:

  1. The Office of Bilingual Education Initiatives will fully subsidize NTUST faculty members’ tuition, round-trip airfare, daily allowances, and international travel insurance costs.
  2. Eligibility criteria for faculty applying for the overseas training program include:
    • Instructors awarded for the "EMI Teaching Skills Enhancement Awards" in the 112-2 semester
    • Instructors or department heads responsible for the BEST program in each college
    • Instructors who have participated in lectures, training, or EMI-related communities organized by the Office of Bilingual Education Initiatives
    • Instructors who have taught EMI courses at NTUST by the 113-1 semester
    • Instructors with a strong passion for EMI teaching and dedication to becoming an EMI role model at NTUST
  3. Please complete the application form by November 29, 2024. After a joint selection process by the OBEI review committee and UCI representatives, the list of selected faculty members will be posted on the Office of Bilingual Education Initiatives’ website on December 6, 2024, and notification emails will be sent to selected candidates.
  4. Obligations of participating faculty upon return:
    • Participate in post-training experience-sharing sessions
    • Serve as a model EMI instructor
    • Offer EMI courses on campus
  5. Notes:
    • During the training period, full participation in all scheduled courses and programs, including some weekend activities, is required. In the event of unexcused absences or non-compliance, the organizers may determine a partial reimbursement based on the number of days missed.
